Blade server computing is growing in popularity, largely driven by virtualization within the data center. Adoption is also driven by a need for better performance and scalability, according to a recent survey by IDG Research Services. The survey’s 87 respondents, all involved in server-related purchases or decisions at their organizations, were almost evenly split among those whose organizations have fewer than 500 employees (53 percent) and those with 500 to more than 10,000 employees (47 percent). More than 60 percent are currently using blade servers, and the number considering blade purchases in the coming 12 months totals 70 percent.
